How it Works

Every new client begins with a free 20-minute consultation.

This is a chance to connect, talk through your needs (or your child’s needs), and determine whether Lucy’s Learning Lab is the right fit. Students are always welcome to join.

From there, Lucy will recommend a path forward based on your goals, whether that’s ongoing sessions, a short-term intensive, or a more structured support plan.

Assessments

This typically takes place over three sessions and is designed to better understand a student’s strengths, challenges, and overall learning profile. From there, Lucy provides recommendations to guide next steps and ensure the most effective support.

What Sessions Include:

Sessions are individualized and may include a blend of writing coaching, learning support, and mentorship, guided by a flexible, strengths-based approach.

Writing Coaching

  • Sessions include working on school assignments, Lucy’s materials, original writing, or a combination of these. Students gain experience across a range of writing tasks and genres while building both process and product skills, from generating and organizing ideas to revising and refining their work.

Grammar and mechanics are taught as part of a deeper understanding of language, helping students communicate their ideas with clarity and confidence.

Learning Support

  • Learning support involves developing the underlying skills that make writing and academic work more manageable and effective.

This may include executive functioning skills such as planning, organization, task initiation and follow-through, as well as, strategies for focus, time management and sustaining effort through challenging tasks.

Lucy’s approach is informed by cognitive science and educational psychology. Younger students are introduced to these concepts in age-appropriate ways, while older students learn more explicit strategies such as effective study techniques, active recall, and deliberate practice.

The goal is to help students develop skills that lead to long-term, durable learning, not just short-term results.

Neurodiversity Focus

  • Lucy specializes in supporting students with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and twice-exceptional (2E) profiles. Many students feel stuck, overwhelmed, or avoidant when it comes to writing, while others simply aren’t getting what they need from traditional schooling.

Lucy provides concrete strategies, structured practice, and real-time coaching to help students learn and grow. She also supports students as they navigate school systems, communicate with teachers or professors, use accommodations and assistive technology, and develop self-advocacy skills.
